Immediate Dentures
Immediate dentures are complete or partial dentures inserted on the same day as the removal of natural teeth.
There are several advantages of immediate dentures. The most important advantage is that you won’t be leaving that day without any teeth. It is easy to duplicate the shape, colour and arrangement of your natural teeth while some are still present in your mouth. When an immediate denture is inserted at the time of extraction, it acts as a Band-Aid to protect the exposed tissue and reduce bleeding. The immediate denture will also allow you to establish new speech patterns and help you eat your food.
However, there can be some limitations to immediate dentures. The biggest limitation is the cost. Another limitation is that you cannot see how the denture will look before teeth are extracted. The immediate denture does not always fit as well as a conventional denture which is made after the tissue has healed. Immediate dentures must be relined once the tissue has healed where the tooth has been extracted.
