We love our community, so every month, we will be keeping you up to date with the latest in how our practice can look after your family's dental health, keeping you informed.
Our aim is for your child to grow up with happy dental experiences, a pleasing smile free of fillings and to develop good dental habits for life. After many years of treating children, and being a mother herself, Dr Rogers continues to stress the importance of allowing a child to become familiar with the dental environment from an early age (around 6 months old). This familiarity makes the dental environment, with all its unusual smells and noises, one that is non-threatening, particularly if they should need some treatment in the future. Read More...
As parents we all want the best for our kids and many parents have been asking us how best to prevent or indeed attempt to reduce trauma to their children's teeth while playing sport.
Front teeth are particularly prone to being traumatized, as they tend to erupt at strange angles. With children being active in sports and running around a custom-made, well-fitting sports guard will not only protect the teeth, but also support the jaw and facial bones, so reducing the risk of facial fracture and even the risk of concussion.

Any trauma to a child's face can be most distressing as copious amounts of blood are usually involved. Try to remain calm and compress any obvious wounds to stop the bleeding. If a tooth is knocked out, do not run it underwater as this may adversely effect the healing process and the subsequent reattachment of the tooth into its socket. Carefully remove any visible debris, like grass or dirt, and either place the tooth back into the child's mouth in the space between the cheek and gums so it is bathed in saliva, but NOT back into the socket, or place it in a glass of milk and contact us immediately.

Agreeably, not only should dentistry be functional, but it should improve a patient’s appearance too. Our belief about cosmetic dentistry is not to make patients look like they have had their teeth “done” or to be so extreme that they look ridiculous, but to subtly enhance their existing appearance.

Dental braces are orthodontic devices used to straighten and align teeth to improve their appearance. Braces are also used for correcting the bite or jaw function. Braces are fitted by an orthodontist who is a dentist with specialist training in diagnosing and treating issues with teeth and jaw alignment. What are braces made of? Braces are made of metal or ceramic brackets which are bonded to the teeth and connected by wire. In some instances, small rubber bands are used between upper and lower braces to create extra pressure to move the teeth.Read More...
Dental Health Week (DHW) is the Australian Dental Association’s (ADA) major annual oral health campaign. This year it is the week of 7-13th August 2023. The campaign focuses on the importance of taking steps to care for your teeth and gums to help you keep your teeth and smile for life. This year, DHW is focusing on the mouth and whole-body connection. There are links between diseases in the mouth and diseases in the body. This month was Dental Health Week and following on from our last newsletter, we are highlighting the importance of good oral health for our complete well being. Caries, cavities, and tooth decay are terms that we will often hear when talking teeth. They are related, but not exactly the same thing. They do all refer to different stages of bacterial damage to a tooth.
The process starts when the bacteria in the mouth starts feeding on sugar from the foods you eat. Bacteria produce acids that begin to eat away at healthy teeth by leaching the minerals and weakening the enamel.Read More...
